SUMMER 2022 NEWS

It was a busy spring in our studio! We have been in the thick of exploring some new ideas, launching new collaborations and fabricating projects that will soon be installed in Texas and California. It has also been exciting to launch some new projects right here in the San Francisco Bay Area.

As we start to get back out and re-engage with the world, we hope we can all step out into our neighborhoods and support our communities both near and far. It has been a crazy year already … and we are only half way through! Let’s come together to share, learn and create.

Cheers to summer!

JUST COMPLETED \\

NEPHELE: Nephele is a sculptural chandelier that evokes organic forms of floating sea creatures and extraordinary cloud formations. In Greek mythology Nephele (Greek: Νεφέλη, from νέφος nephos “cloud”) was a cloud nymph created by Zeus in the image of the goddess Hera.
ELEKTRA: Elektra is a sculptural awning that illuminates and activates the entrance of CounterPulse an experimental art and performance space in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco, through a woven structure of steel and light.

IN PROGRESS \\

WEATHERSCAPE: We are awaiting the green light to install our sculptural shade canopy at the El Paso Children’s Museum in Texas! Check out our fabrication process images.
1000 SUNS: Fabrication is complete and we are about to install a sculptural shade canopy that will establish a lively collective focal point for Downtown Sunnyvale, CA

KIMSEY GROVE: Our sculptural pavilion in Scottsdale, AZ was approved by the Scottsdale Arts Commission and has been submitted for permitting! We are excited to embark on fabrication soon!

LEVITT PAVILION:  Our proposal for the Levitt Pavilion in downtown San Jose, CA is kicking off its next design phase! We are excited to be restarting the project and continuing to collaborate with our amazing design team (CMG, ARUP, Page & Turnbull), the city and community of San Jose, and The Levitt Foundation!

STRETTO: Stretto is a new anchor artwork for ocV!BE adjacent to the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. We recently completed Design Development for the sculpture, working in collaboration with a great team including MKA, Zahner, Populous and the core design team.

NEWS \\

“... the link between creativity and technology is inseparable as demonstrated by the works of Futureforms …”

Orbital was featured in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Serra in an article about “San Francisco Connected to Tomorrow” by Barbara Passavini. We loved reading about Orbital (in Italian!) and getting some new insights into the amazing city we call home!

VR GALLERY: We have refreshed our website and added a VR gallery!  Explore a virtual gallery of our most recent work and experience the 3D models by walking through them in real time!

SNEAK PEEK: We are sharing a number of ‘never seen before’ project proposals. Infinite Forms reveals two material characters: one smooth, mirrored, reflective, and another tactile, colorful, and textured. Checkout more of our unbuilt artwork (for now)

GO WARRIORS!: We could not leave without a shout-out to our local basketball team. We have been glued to our screens watching the NBA Finals taking place a couple of blocks from our studio … in order to catch glimpses of Orbital from the helicopter shots! Can you spot it?

THANK YOU \\

Special thanks to our studio and shop team for all of your hard work and dedication!

Each year we engage in a range of new work with non-profits, architects, developers, art consultants, curators, cities and communities. We would be honored for an opportunity to connect and collaborate: whether it’s creating a bespoke sculpture, supporting a master planning process, collaborating on a public art commission or creating something unique for your site or community.
